Located in the Ocala National Forest, visitors to Salt Springs will be delighted with the wide diversity of recreational activities available. Originally a privately owned campground, the National Forest Service purchased the area in 1970. Vents of both salt and freshwater flow into the spring which creates a distortion of objects underwater known as a "halocline." This feature, unique to Salt Springs, makes it a favorite among snorkelers. The springs flow into Salt Springs Run, an excellent canoe trail which empties into Lake George. With superb camping facilities, above average fishing, great hiking trails and a food store and gas station nearby, the springs offer a chance to get away from it all combined with modern conveniences.
